Ok, here's the situation. I quit smoking on Tuesday (today) Thursday. I use Xanax, Tuesday did) I have a recipe for 40 (non-rechargeable), the dose of 0.25 (the lowest dose.
I think it really helps withdrawal - I could not leave without him. Now I'm on day 3, and is bad, but the xanax helps.
I therefore 4 or 5 of them per day had for me through those first few weeks of nicotine withdrawal. I will be over 8 to 10 days, and it is the end of Xanax.

No, when I was in school there were people who took the 2 mg for 2 weeks, and then quit with no withdrawals.

Probably not ... You should have no problems to stop .... In general, the Xanax is difficult to stop after a long use .. and increased the dose needed to achieve the same effect. With a pill with smoking (such as commit to stop) or rubber (such as Nicorette) can help greatly to stop the addiction. My husband is currently (with committing a package of 2.3-to-day ER) ... and find great work (the very bad side effects of Chantix had - the question) the statute of limitations.
I'd say maybe one of these OTC needs help ...
